Londoner’s Diary: Stanley Johnson’s ready to put down his pen… but after one final novel

STANLEY JOHNSON tells us he is “ready to call it a day” on his writing career after republishing The Warming and releasing a new novel, From an Antique Land.

The PM’s father and former Tory MEP tells us The Warming was published in 1999 under the title The Ice Cap but he wants to republish it “because we’re coming up for the great conference [COP26]”. And it has rave reviews — from Stanley Johnson himself. “I was reading it last night and I couldn’t put it down… At two o’clock in the morning I kept on saying to myself: ‘Well what’s going to happen?”

But he says “I think I’m going to call it a day”, before revealing that From an Antique Land, set “entirely in Cambodia” will be released later this year. It’s not over till it’s over.
